About the writer
Lee Markham is a Brit and a wine drinker, not a wine writer. He funds his own hobbies (eating and drinking) meaning that value-for-money is at the pinnacle of all he blogs and writes about - aside from his writing, he is a wine salesman in a luxury supermarket in the German city of Essen, his adopted home.
Why Island Monkey?
Island Monkey (literally Inselaffe) is a term that the Germans (and other Europeans for that matter) use when describing the Brits. This is usually meant in a negative sense but it is not necessarily meant to insult - it is used rather for comic effect rather than a display of contempt.
